Flea Control Home Remedies

When it comes to flea control home remedies, there are a lot from which to choose. For the remedies to have success, your home must be clean so that fleas cannot survive. Save time and money by employing the following homemade remedies.

Wash away your fleas

In addition to washing your pet's bedding frequently, add eucalyptus essential oil to the last rinse cycle to keep fleas from accumulating on the bedding. The eucalyptus oil not only smells good but kills dust mites as well.

Find power in minerals and fruit

Do a thorough job of vacuuming, then sprinkle table salt on the carpet and upholstery to get rid of the fleas in a natural manner. Additional home remedies for flea eradication include the use of a citrus repellent. To create this at home, cut a lemon into quarters and boil in water. Let this sit overnight to activate the repellent properties. Put the lemon water into a bottle and spray your pet all over - especially in the areas around the head, behind the ears, under the armpit and at the base of the tail.

Scent those fleas away

For a more aromatherapy type of action, combine cedarwood and lavender essential oils with pure almond carrier oil as the base. Shake this mixture thoroughly and spread it on your pet's skin to repel fleas. Create an effective flea collar by taking the essential oil of eucalyptus, lavender or geranium and citronella and applying it to a dog collar or bandana. For a bad infestation, an essential oil bath is also a solution. Add a few drops of lavender or tea tree essential oils to your pet's bath water, or use an herbal flea dip made from fresh rosemary.

Any of these natural repellents are effective remedies for fleas. Although it is very difficult to get rid of fleas completely, use these suggestions to control them in an environmentally-safe manner.
